How do I use the print slides to print color handouts?
Print slides are alternate backgrounds that are primarily white with a border of the template design.  (You may need to adjust the font color when you use them.) Use the print slide for color printing as follows:
1. Select the slide(s) you want to print from your presentation.
2. Choose Background from the Format menu. (see an illustrated tutorial on how to format a background)
3. Under Background fill, click the down arrow, click Fill Effects, and then click the Picture tab.
4. Click Select Picture, find the folder that contains the print slide you want, double-click the file name, and then click OK.
5. To apply the change to the current slide, click Apply. To apply the change to all slides, click Apply to All.
See how to format a background in PowerPoint 2007.

How do I use the print slides to print in black and white?
PowerPoint assumes that slide backgrounds should be dropped out when printing in black and white.  So if you plan to print in black and white, the print slide must be treated as a Picture.
1. Insert the print slide like a Picture, i.e., choose Insert/Picture/From File
2. Size the picture to fit your screen (either use the handles or the Format/Picture/Size tab)
3. With the picture selected, choose Draw/Order/Send to Back (so your text will show)
4. With the picture selected choose Edit/Copy
5. Go to the next slide, choose Edit/Paste and repeat step #3
6. Do this for each slide (you won't have to copy again, just Edit/Paste and send to back)
