Everywhere you go, electronic digital signage is in use - advertising and informing.
Take a look in your local mall, grocery store, healthcare provider’s office, gym or your workplace. You’ll see plasma screens on walls, LCDs in storefront windows, kiosks in shopping centers and electronic signs in office and hotel lobbies. These displays aren’t just for interiors - outdoor digital signage is prevalent in many public areas as well.
This form of communication is known by many names: outdoor digital signage, narrowcasting, video messaging, electronic billboards, digital media networks, DOOH and in-store TV to name a few.
It can be as simple as a single LCD sign in a retail store with an attached DVD player. In larger systems, the
hardware and software used to administer the signs can be quite complex - using sophisticated content creation hardware and software along with dedicated servers to schedule and distribute content worldwide.
As an administrator, the objective is to cost effectively create attention grabbing content that engages the captive audience or passerby. Frequently the system administrator needs to quickly create new eye catching
ways to display information. Since many administrators are not graphic designers and do not have experienced marketing support, the cost of creating custom digital signage content can be excessive.
Since displaying current information and easily changing screen designs is one of the greatest benefits of digital
signage, the ability to use PowerPoint can be very cost effective since most organizations have some experience with this product.
This is especially true for mid size businesses and locations that are for information rather than advertising.
